A beautiful journey of Catholic church design and sacred art unfolded at Our Lady of the Assumption in Copiague, New York, a new Catholic church built after a devastating fire destroyed the original structure. The rebuilt church features liturgical design by Rolf Rohn, developed in close collaboration with the pastor, with the sanctuary artwork and Catholic church murals executed by our talented artists. Rising from the loss, the new sanctuary embodies the resilience of the parish community and the enduring light of faith.
Behind the altar, a heavenly sanctuary mural of Our Lady surrounded by adoring angels fills the church with her grace and maternal presence. Above, a luminous painting of the young God the Father (Pater Noster) radiates divine light and compassion. The Seven Sorrows of Mary, depicted throughout the church interior, reflect the profound moments in her life that resonate with Christ’s passion—an important theme in Catholic devotional art and church mural programs.
These sacred artworks began as conceptual sketches for the Catholic church’s liturgical design and evolved through multiple stages of color renderings, both small and large. Each element was refined through numerous iterations to ensure theological accuracy, artistic harmony, and seamless integration within the Catholic church interior. Once approved, the murals were painted on canvas and installed on the walls and ceiling, creating a unified environment of Catholic sacred art and church decoration that draws the faithful into prayer and contemplation.
Our work continues to enrich the parish’s sacred space. After restoring several statues in our Pittsburgh studio, artist Renate Rohn delivered, installed, and applied final touches on site—including the statue of Saint Michael the Archangel beside the altar and other angel statues. Rolf is now collaborating with church leadership and a renowned stained glass studio in Italy to create a new stained glass window for the Catholic church honoring the same heavenly protector. Together, these complementary works of church art and liturgical decoration establish a powerful visual presence, with Saint Michael chosen as Heaven’s guardian—symbolizing strength, protection, and courage for the parish community.
We invite you to witness the transformation of this Catholic church rebuilt after fire by visiting the parish or viewing the consecration Mass, where sacred art, Catholic liturgical design, and devotion unite in a profound celebration of Christ.
