Historic Statues Restored at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church

At Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Copiague, NY, the parish’s historic statues have been carefully restored as part of the new church’s liturgical design and sacred art program by Rohn & Associates, preserving both their artistry and spiritual significance. These artworks continue to inspire devotion and prayer for parishioners while complementing the rebuilt sanctuary.

Among the treasured statues is St. Anthony with the Christ Child, depicted with the Child holding a bouquet of flowers and seated on a book—his Psalter, symbolizing his reverence for scripture and the Word of God. The wooden figure, finished in natural colors, highlights delicate craftsmanship from the folds of St. Anthony’s robes to the gentle expression of the Baby Jesus. After the parish’s devastating fire, St. Anthony’s presence became a meaningful symbol of spiritual renewal, offering comfort to a community committed to reclaiming its sacred space.

St. Jude, the patron of the impossible, holds an image of Christ close to his heart. The wooden statue, finished to harmonize with St. Anthony, embodies hope and intercession, reflecting the parish’s own resurrection after the 2020 fire. Parishioners who rebuilt the church from near-total loss can see in St. Jude a mirror of their fortitude and faith, demonstrating that even insurmountable challenges can be overcome through prayer and dedication.

The imposing figure of Michael the Archangel stands on a pedestal to the right of the altar, sword in hand and golden wings outstretched, conveying divine protection and the victory of good over evil. Positioned prominently within the sanctuary, Michael watches over the congregation, symbolizing the community’s resilience. Enhanced with rich, authentic colors, his stance reflects courage and steadfast resolve, honoring the strength that guided the parish through adversity into renewed spiritual life.

Outside, the 110-year-old Immaculate Heart of Mary statue rises above the parish grounds, her flowing blue gown and crown radiating grace and maternal care. She stands upon a cloud, cherubic angels at her feet. Her features glow with lifelike hues, inviting quiet reflection and prayer. This exterior Catholic statue serves as a shrine for unborn children and a focal point for veneration, embodying Mary’s intercessory love and enduring hope. Just as her heart lifts the faithful, the parish itself has been buoyed by the persevering spirit of its congregation.

All of these sacred Catholic statues were meticulously restored by Renate Rohn, whose expertise ensures that each figure retains its spiritual presence while harmonizing with the church’s overall liturgical design. These works preserve the parish’s heritage, celebrate its faith, and stand as enduring symbols of resilience, devotion, and communal reawakening.
