Celebrating the Sacred Art and Restoration of St. Joseph Catholic Basilica

At Saint Joseph Basilica in Webster, MA, we recently revisited a project of great significance. The Rohn team designed and executed a comprehensive renovation of both the interior and exterior, including upgrades to lighting, air and heating systems, marble flooring, furnishings, murals, interior decoration, protective glass, roofing, gutters, downspouts, and stunning bronze doors and sculptures.

The artwork was completed with meticulous attention to detail, carefully complementing the restored sanctuary art while honoring the Renaissance style and Polish tradition. These pieces, beyond their visual impact, serve as a living testament to the Catholic faith and the parish’s deep-rooted heritage. Each work was thoughtfully designed to celebrate both the spiritual and communal journey of the parish, reflecting their devotion and cultural values.

The renovation took five years to complete, with Monsignor James Czarnecki—who shared a special friendship with Pope John Paul II—working closely with Rolf to ensure its success. Though the project began with a modest $2,200 budget, a carefully executed fundraising campaign made its full realization possible.

The exceptional beauty of the sacred space ultimately led to the church’s elevation to the status of a basilica.
