The Catholic tradition of burial is rooted in profound reverence for the body, created in the image of Christ. It is a sacred duty to lay earthly remains to rest with dignity, in anticipation of the resurrection of the body and the shared glory of eternal life. Crafting memorial gravestone monuments is both a responsibility and a grace-filled privilege, as each serves as a lasting testament to our Catholic faith, guiding hearts toward the hope of heaven.
Although contemplating death can be difficult, it is an act of mercy and love to make these preparations in advance—for ourselves and our loved ones—long before we are reunited with God our Father and those who have gone before us. The care we devote to burial arrangements offers not only respect for the deceased but also peace and reassurance for those left behind, affirming the Church’s promise of reunion in the life to come.
A faith-filled couple seeking to prepare for the future entrusted Rohn & Associates with the creation of sacred memorial art for their family mausoleum in Wheeling, West Virginia. After listening to their heartfelt vision, Liturgical Designer Rolf Rohn collaborated with his team of artists to develop original sketches for two life-size marble angels, designed to rest atop the mausoleum as heavenly guardians.
The artists shaped the designs into detailed clay models, which were then cast into plaster forms to capture every feature. These sacred prototypes were entrusted to our master artisans in Carrara, Italy, who reverently carved them into full-scale white Carrara marble sculptures, preserving each line and expression with exacting fidelity. Their true-to-life scale is evident in the photo below, as Rolf stands beside one of the finished angels.
Now complete, these heavenly messengers stand in silent vigil, watching from above—welcoming God’s children into everlasting life and bearing witness to the enduring power of faithful remembrance.
