The tradition of Christian burial is deeply ingrained in our beliefs. As our bodies are created in the image of Christ, it is essential to inter them properly, preparing for eternal rest and the shared glory of the risen Christ. Crafting memorial gravestone monuments is a privilege, as they serve as enduring reminders of our Catholic faith, guiding us towards eternal life.
Although contemplating death can be unsettling, it is crucial to respect and fulfill the burial wishes of both our loved ones and ourselves, often long before we are reunited with Our Father in heaven and departed loved ones. The careful attention we devote to laying earthly remains to rest not only honors the deceased but also offers solace and hope to family and friends, reassuring them of the promise of being reunited once again.
A couple seeking to plan for the future entrusted Rohn & Associates with the task of creating memorial art for their family mausoleum in Wheeling, West Virginia. Upon hearing their heartfelt wishes, Liturgical Designer Rolf Rohn collaborated with his team of artists to craft initial sketches for two life-size angels, each bearing a likeness intended to grace the apex of the structure.
The artists transformed the drawings into clay models, which were subsequently cast into molds and plaster figures (view the design process here). These scaled-down representations were then sent to our skilled Italian artisans. They meticulously translated them into full-size Carrara marble sculptures, ensuring that every intricate detail and proportion remained faithful to the original vision. Their true-to-life dimensions are evident as Rolf stands beside a finished angel in the photo below.
These divine messengers now watch from above, waiting to welcome God's children into everlasting life.
