Father Troy Gately and Pete Prados unpacking the Crucifix |
Rohn & Associates Design led the comprehensive renovation of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, with a special emphasis on an extensive statuary plan. Collaborating closely with Father R. Troy Gately, Pastor, and supported by the local community’s generous fundraising efforts, Rolf Rohn and his team thoughtfully conceptualized and brought to life devotional statues reflecting the parish’s rich spiritual heritage.
Fundraising was inspired by detailed drawings created by Rolf, who worked alongside Father Gately to ensure each statue honored a particular devotion dear to the parish community. Rohn’s artists produced intricate preliminary sketches that guided master artisans handpicked by Rolf, many of whom have meticulously crafted these statues. The effort also includes the careful restoration of treasured existing statues, enhancing the church’s sacred atmosphere.
The statuary featured throughout the church includes:
Side shrine: Immaculate Conception (Patroness of the Diocese of Galveston-Houston), St. John the Baptist, St. Joseph
Transepts: St. Theresa of Lisieux, St. Francis of Assisi
Nave: St. Monica, St. Anthony, St. Anne with Blessed Mother and Child, St. Judas, Stations of the Cross
Narthex: St. Peter, St. Paul
Beyond the statuary, the renovation has included a stunning dome mural installation, custom-designed flooring, and new liturgical furniture—all illuminated by a state-of-the-art lighting system thoughtfully designed and executed by Rolf and his dedicated team. The original wooden crucifix was carefully restored and relocated to the chapel, while a new awe-inspiring crucifix now commands the sanctuary as its focal point.
As the project continues, the completed and restored elements come together to renew St. John Vianney as a radiant beacon of faith—a sacred space honoring God and inspiring generations to come.
