On May 4, Pope Francis visited the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy, and delivered a homily at the conclusion of a day of reflection on the life of Blessed Junípero Serra. Rohn & Associates Design was privileged to provide the image of Blessed Junípero Serra before which the Holy Father spoke.
The Holy Father recalled how the evangelization work of Brother Junípero “reminds us of the first twelve Franciscan apostles who were pioneers of the Christian faith in Mexico. He ushered in a new springtime of evangelization in those immense territories, extending from Florida to California, which, in the previous two hundred years, had been reached by missionaries from Spain...long before the pilgrims of the Mayflower reached the North Atlantic coast.
The Pope went on to praise Brother Junípero’s missionary zeal, Marian devotion, and witness of holiness. A full copy of his talk is available on our Facebook page.
The stained glass depiction of Blessed Junípero Serra was a sample window designed by Rohn & Associates Custom Studios for the Chapel of the Institute for Continuing Theological Education at the NAC. Rohn Design was chosen to design and build this chapel in 2010, which features a full set of windows of the American Saints and Blesseds.
We were honored to play a part in the Pope's first visit to the Pontifical North American College in preparation for his pastoral trip to the United States in just a few weeks.
