Sanctuary Restoration and Flooring Honoring St. John Paul II at Perth Amboy Parish

Rohn & Associates Design, led by liturgical designer Rolf Rohn, has had the privilege of working with the leadership at St. John Paul II Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, for more than two decades. Together, we have helped bring their vision for a sacred and uplifting worship space to life, one step at a time.

The parish, part of the Diocese of Metuchen, serves a vibrant, multicultural Catholic congregation. It honors its patron saint, Pope St. John Paul II, whose deep love for the Eucharist and courageous call to “be not afraid” continue to inspire the faith and purpose of this community.

Over the years, our complete restoration of the church has touched nearly every element of the interior—from liturgical furnishings and sacred art to stained glass. As part of this ongoing effort, we rebuilt the sanctuary and altar and carefully relocated the ambo to strengthen the liturgical focus. Each piece was thoughtfully crafted or restored to support the celebration of the Mass and invite a deeper sense of reverence, beauty, and prayer.

Most recently, we designed and installed new sanctuary flooring. The granite—sourced from Scandinavia and masterfully cut in Italy—was arranged in elegant, precise patterns. The floor features the papal coat of arms of St. John Paul II alongside the Latin phrase Totus Tuus (“All for Christ”). These details enrich the holy setting in both tradition and spiritual heritage.

This longstanding partnership reflects our shared commitment to creating a worship environment that invites prayer, contemplation, and connection while honoring the enduring legacy of St. John Paul II.
