It is with heartfelt sympathy that we join in mourning the loss of Sister Janet Baxendale, S.C., a devoted Sister of Charity of New York. For 26 years, Sister Janet served as Director of the Liturgy Office of the Archdiocese of New York and chaired its Liturgical Art and Architecture Commission. She was a key editor of Built of Living Stones: Art, Architecture, and Worship, the guiding document issued by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to support parishes in building and renovating sacred spaces. She also advised the USCCB’s Committee on Divine Worship.
Sister Janet was a trusted and deeply valued consultant to Rohn and Associates Design, Inc. for more than a decade. Her insights and wisdom shaped not only our work but also the educational programs we shared with our clients. We are grateful for her partnership, inspired by her legacy, and honored to have walked alongside her in service to the Church.
