Local Business Leader Receives Lifetime Achievement Award for Catholic Art and Liturgical Design
No matter the profession, a lifetime achievement award is
presented to an individual who, during their lifetime, has made significant
contributions to their field and sets them apart from others. Liturgical
Designer Rolf Rohn is a humble man and a road warrior who spends almost every
minute of every day creating church environments worthy of being a domus dei—a
house of God. Focused on harmony and liturgical correctness, his work stands a
silent witness to the emotions of the faithful around the world.
Rolf was recently recognized for his remarkable
contributions by his alma mater, the South Hills High School Alumnae Association,
at their 55th Annual Hall of Fame Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 29th, in
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Rolf, the only class of 1964 member to receive this
coveted award, was recognized for his over 50 years of service to the Catholic Church. With a body of work of more than 2,500 churches, chapels, cathedrals, and
basilicas in the United States—including many in his hometown of Pittsburgh—and Europe, the nominating committee, after careful review, felt Rolf was
deserving of this honor. Attending with Rolf was his sister, artist Renate
Rohn—the only person Rolf told about the award. She said, “he has always been
this way; the only thing that impresses him are perfect liturgical environments.” Both Renate and Rolf carry on the work of their late father, the
gifted liturgical artist Rudolph N. Rohn, who founded the company in 1952.
