Catholic Church Designer Revitalizes Worship Space with Statue and Interior Restoration at St. Gregory the Great
Rohn & Associates Custom Studios was recently entrusted with the delicate restoration of the statues, crucifix, and shrine backgrounds at St. Gregory the Great in San Antonio, Texas. Working onsite to honor the sacred nature of the space, our skilled artists meticulously applied thin ½" strips of genuine 23k gold leaf to the architectural details of the marble background behind the Blessed Mother Shrine. This painstaking gilding process not only enhanced the shrine’s elegance but also restored its original luminous beauty, inviting deeper contemplation and reverence.
Alongside the gilding, we renewed the surrounding paintwork with expertly blended hues that complement the church’s historic palette. Each Station of the Cross and accompanying statue received individualized attention, with refreshed colors, nuanced shadows, and delicate highlights thoughtfully applied to bring forth their intricate details and sculptural depth. These sacred images were then enriched with subtle yet radiant accents of 23k gold leaf, enhancing their spiritual presence and visual impact.
Adding to this revitalization, our team custom-designed and hand-painted the Sacred Hearts of Mary and Jesus, which now grace their respective statues—serving as focal points for devotion and prayer. The church’s tabernacle, once darkened with age, was carefully restored through refinishing in two complementary bronze tones. This process illuminated the exquisite bas-relief symbols and imagery adorning its front, renewing its role as a revered vessel for the Eucharist. Remarkably, the Corpus and Cross were restored in situ, preserving the sanctity and continuity of the sanctuary throughout the project.
Through this comprehensive work, Rohn & Associates has helped breathe new life into a cherished holy environment, creating an atmosphere of harmony and spiritual beauty. This renewal supports the faithful in their prayerful devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus, fostering a deeper sense of reverence, peace, and connection within the parish community.
