In Loving Memory of Edmund Rabanser, Renowned Catholic Woodcarver and Faithful Artist

Monsignor James Moroney, Kathleen Maglicco, Sister Janet Baxendale and Edmund Rabanser

Nearly half a century ago, Rudolph Rohn discovered a brilliant young artisan whose God-given talent allowed him to carve masterpieces from wood. So strong was Rudolph’s faith in this gifted woodcarver that he entrusted him with his first major commission. That young artisan was Edmund Rabanser—who would go on to become one of the world’s preeminent master woodcarvers.

Today, with heartfelt sympathy, Rolf Rohn shares the news of Edmund’s passing. A trusted collaborator and dear friend, Edmund was a true artist—devoted to creating one-of-a-kind sacred works through simple Old World craftsmanship in his treasured Ortisei studio, nestled in his home overlooking the Italian Alps.

It is a comfort to know that Edmund’s legacy lives on in churches around the globe, including these works created in partnership with our studio:

  • Holy Family Institute, Pittsburgh, PA – Holy Family statue and Saint with Children

Edmund’s immense talent, genuine kindness, and boundless spirit were evident in all he did—both in life and in the studio. All of us at Rohn & Associates are better people and artisans for having known him. We will miss his unforgettable smile, treasure the time we shared, and continue to draw inspiration from the life he breathed into every piece he crafted by hand.

Eternal rest grant unto our brother, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Concetta; his three children, George, Oskar, and Helen; and six cherished grandchildren.
