For more than seven years, Rohn & Associates Design collaborated with Pastor Monsignor Michael Campbell to lead the sacred art, liturgical design, and restoration of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta, Ohio. As part of this ongoing project, we created and installed custom 6’ × 5’ Marian murals in the dome’s niches, depicting pivotal moments in the life of the Blessed Mother. Hand-painted to harmonize with the basilica’s stained glass, rich color palette, and gold accents, the murals invite parishioners to reflect on Mary’s role in salvation history—God’s unfolding plan to bring humanity to redemption through Christ—and strengthen the devotional and spiritual impact of the worship space.
Through our parish fundraising and capital campaign services for Catholic churches, Rohn & Associates Design secured the resources needed to transform the dome’s eight niches. Contractors removed the niche back walls and installed custom 6’ × 5’ murals depicting key moments from the life of Mary, creating a cohesive Marian theme that harmonizes with the dome’s colors and existing stained glass. Set against a rich blue background, the murals vividly depict Mary, gently accompanied by her family. Gold accents harmonize with the stenciled words encircling the dome, honoring Mary as Mother of the Church and inviting the faithful to grow closer to Christ. Our team oversaw the murals’ scale, color palette, and iconography, ensuring they aligned with the basilica’s sacred aesthetic and supported the spiritual journey of parishioners through visual storytelling.
This careful integration of sacred art, liturgical design, and restoration not only honors the Blessed Mother but also enriches the worship experience throughout the Basilica. Each niche now highlights Mary’s intercession, inviting reflection and strengthening the faithful’s connection to the central themes of Catholic devotion.
