Miraculous Restoration of Infant of Prague Statue Brings New Life to Sacred Art

When an antique Child Jesus of Prague statue arrived from a private client for renewal, artist Victoria Christina carefully assessed its delicate condition. The statue had a broken crown, a dislocated hand, and dark, faded paint. Victoria began by removing the globus cruciger (orb and cross) and methodically restoring the statue. She first repaired the damaged hand and then gently placed the globe back in its grasp.

After priming the statue, she applied realistic flesh-toned oil colors to the face and hands, bringing the figure to life. Victoria painted the imperial robe a rich burgundy, accentuating its magnificent details and intricate lace edging with warm cream tones and gilding. The previously indistinguishable globus cruciger now stands out in striking azure and gold.

Finally, a brilliant new crown proclaims the regal nature of this statue, inspired by the 16th-century Roman Catholic image located in the Discalced Carmelite Church of Our Lady Victorious in Prague, Czech Republic. The restoration not only revived the statue’s original beauty but also preserved its spiritual significance for future generations.
