Rohn & Associates Design led a comprehensive liturgical restoration of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Macon, Georgia, one of the most extensive Catholic church renovations in the South. This landmark parish—a Neo-Gothic gem with twin spires rising 200 feet into the downtown skyline and 60 stained glass windows that teach the story of salvation—has been a spiritual beacon for the Macon area since its dedication in 1903.
Over five years, liturgical designer Rolf Rohn worked with parish leadership to transform the historic church interior through thoughtful space formation, custom liturgical furnishings, custom murals, and advanced church lighting designed to enhance worship and highlight sacred art. Highlights include new side shrine murals, vaulted ceiling artwork depicting the Four Evangelists, and the careful restoration of priceless stained glass—all integral to the church’s distinctive character and decorative program.
A defining aspect of the project was the sanctuary transformation, where a new altar was modeled after St. Joseph's historic high altar to restore harmony with the church’s traditional design. The custom ambo, priest's chair, and deacon's chair, together with the enhanced side chapels, created a cohesive liturgical setting that complements the church’s soaring proportions and light-filled interior while bringing renewed focus to the celebration of the Mass.
